Date posted: 20 December 2019
Due to the extreme heat and the need to manage the welfare of the Grey-headed Flying-foxes, Adelaide Botanic Garden will have a delayed opening time of 9:30am on Friday 20 December.
Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium staff are doing their best to limit the stress on the flying foxes by cooling their roosting areas with sprinklers and setting up exclusion zones to help protect both the flying fox population and human visitors to Botanic Park.
We're working closely with Fauna Rescue SA and Adelaide Zoo to relocate stressed flying foxes to a cool location where they can get the help they need to recover.
If you see a flying fox on the ground - living or dead - please do not touch it under any circumstance as they can carry a range of serious diseases that can be transmitted to humans. Instead, call the Adelaide Botanic Garden duty officer on 0401120913 or Fauna Rescue SA on 0475132093.
