The National Rose Trial Garden People’s Choice Weekend had record numbers, with a total of 744 people voting for their favourite roses - up from 570 votes last year.
Those who voted number 14 on the ballot sheets picked the winner! Visitors to Adelaide Botanic Garden should look out for number 24 on the baseplate of the rose bush –that's the winner.
Hailing from France, the winning rose is produced by one of the world’s top rose breeders, Meilland International. The Australian agent is local, based in South Australia and run by the well-known gardening expert Kim Syrus.
The winning rose will now undergo the breeding process here in Australia in order to produce thousands of plants for sale – which can be a lengthy process. The rose will more than likely not be available in Australian nurseries until 2017, but it will certainly be worth the wait!
