Annual Appeal 2022: Mediterranean Garden revitalisation

Children racing leaf boats down the Mediterranean Garden water rill is a joyful sight seen daily in Adelaide Botanic Garden.

Help us to revitalise this treasured garden to inspire the next generation of water-wise, climate-aware gardeners.

Nestled in the Garden’s central visitor precinct, the SA Water Mediterranean Garden attracts thousands of families, school children and gardening enthusiasts each year.

Created in 2006 during the peak of Adelaide’s water restrictions, the garden demonstrates water-wise plants suited to Adelaide’s mediterranean climate.

Water is still precious, but our climate is changing and so are our recreational pastimes in a post pandemic world.

Today, the Mediterranean Garden needs renewal to respond to the needs of the next generation of gardeners, current environmental challenges and to provide examples of horticultural excellence that showcase the diversity, resilience and beauty of mediterranean climate plants.

With your support our revitalisation will include:

  • Improved visitor amenity including more seating and shady spaces
  • A new collection of mediterranean climate adapted plants
  • Demonstration of skilled horticultural techniques to inspire gardeners of all abilities
  • Updated information signage and education material, using new technology
  • Programs connecting to our multicultural and diaspora communities

This is a huge investment! One we cannot achieve alone.

Please join us in renewing the Adelaide Botanic Garden Mediterranean Garden.
