Join us and thousands of people at Botanic Gardens across Australia and New Zealand as we celebrate National Botanic Gardens Day!
Explore your local botanic garden to immerse yourself in nature and learn about some of the amazing plant conservation work taking place to protect plants from the threat of extinction.
Bring your friends and family, and prepare to be inspired! South Australia's Botanic Gardens are the perfect place to uncover a new passion for protecting the plants that give us life. Each of our three gardens engage in conservation of both native Australian species and threatened plants from overseas.
The importance of plants cannot be understated. They are the source of most traditional and herbal medicines and, with malnutrition effecting approximately 800 million people worldwide, botanic gardens will play an important role in addressing food shortages with viable food plant options.
Based at Adelaide Botanic Garden, the State Herbarium and SA Seed Conservation Centre undertake vital conservation work every day.
The State Herbarium is the key centre for knowledge and information on South Australia's native and naturalised plants, algae, fungi and lichens. It’s internationally recognised for its research and advisory role in plant systematics.
The SA Seed Conservation Centre helps to protect the state’s threatened plant species from extinction, while supporting the restoration of habitats around South Australia.
