Developing your own collection of Orchids may be easier than you think! In this practical hands-on workshop, propagating and growing Orchids successfully will be demystified.
In this 3-hour workshop, you'll develop a range of techniques that you'll be able to apply when creating your own Orchid collection at home, including the very specialised methods involved in dividing Orchids.
The workshop will also cover the scientific principles of plant growth and propagation methods, information on how to best look after your Orchids, and demonstrations of growing media.
Morning Tea is provided and, at the end of the session, you'll get to take home your very own Orchid and any propagation materials you generated during the course!
This course is ideal for anyone from rare plant collectors, horticultural students, keen gardeners or those that simply have a particular interest in Orchids.
- Understanding Orchids
- Overview of the Orchid family
- How to identify Orchids
- Understanding native Orchid habitat and environmental controls
- Types of growing media best for Orchids
- Propagating techniques by plant division
The workshop will involve practical activities so appropriate footwear (closed shoes, no sandals) and gloves will be required.
Please note that plant material cannot be brought into Mount Lofty Botanic Garden Nursery as it may harbour soil and plant pathogens which could contaminate the Nursery and Garden's living collections.
