Chihuly in the Botanic Garden is an opportunity for students of all ages to come and experience a South Australian exclusive event. We invite you to join the education team from the Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium, alongside members from Makers Empire, the University of South Australia (UniSA) and renowned glass artist, Tom Moore for a night of artistic discovery curated just for teachers.

Be amongst the first to hear about the education program developed for this exhibition as well as experience Chihuly Nights and be mesmerised by dramatically lit glass sculptures as you are guided through the exhibition by a South Australian glass artist.

This professional development session will explore the ways your classes can interact with the Chihuly in the Botanic Garden exhibition. You will be given a first look at self-guided and educator led experiences that you are able to book your classes into.

You will also:

  • Be introduced to the Makers Empire challenge course, Watching Glass Grow
  • Hear from UniSA about tertiary study options in the creative industries and the UniSA experiences available for your school
  • Learn about creative process and the art of glass making with Gabrielle Bisetto, glass artist and senior lecturer at UniSA
  • Participate in a creative workshop in the Bicentennial Conservatory guided by Tom Moore

Afterwards, be led on a guided tour through the exhibition by glass artists to hear about the process from the how these artworks are designed and made in Dale Chihuly’s Seattle workshop and transported to South Australia to be assembled for the exhibition.

As the night concludes, you are welcome to stay on in the Garden as part of Chihuly Nights.

This professional learning session will support you in demonstrating the following AITSL Australian Professional Standards for Teacher:
1.2 Understand how students learn
2.1 Content and teaching strategies of the teaching area
6.2 Engage in professional learning and improve practice
7.4 Engage with professional teaching networks and broader communities

A certificate will be provided with 4-hours professional development credit.

Grazing boards, a beverage and complimentary parking will be provided.

The Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium Schools Education Program is supported by the Department for Education.
