Nature Festival: SA Seed Hunters - keeping the hope alive

Nature Festival: SA Seed Hunters - keeping the hope alive

Learn how threatened SA plant species are being conserved in this positive news story

The South Australian Seed Conservation Centre (SASCC) and State Herbarium work together to document, understand and conserve South Australia’s flora.

At this fascinating talk, hear how the team at the SASCC have collected and stored seeds from more than 2,500 native plant species for long-term cold storage as insurance against extinction.

Find out how a Seed Orchard located within Adelaide Botanic Garden maintains some of the State’s most threatened flora in a living collection, which aims to provide sufficient quantities of seeds to support their conservation - both in the wild and in the seed bank's freezer.

At this fascinating talk, you will also hear how the team's work contributes to the Global Millennium Seed Bank Partnership, which operates across 80 countries.

Dates and times:
10am - 11am on Tuesday 11 October, 2022 or

2pm - 3pm on Thursday 13 October, 2022
