Museum of Economic Botany, Adelaide Botanic Garden
Inside the exquisite on-site museum, a joyful art exhibition is on display.
Local artist, Linda Catchlove (1969 – 2021), spent ten years working as a graphic designer at Disney Studios in Sydney after graduating from art school.
In 2000, seeking a change, she enrolled in horticulture and attended botanic art classes to learn more about watercolour painting. To her delight, she was ‘hooked from day one’.
Linda’s style evolved—an enchanting blend of the precision demanded of botanical drawing and the fanciful characters she worked on at Disney.
Her exquisitely detailed watercolours capture the beauty of Australia’s native flora and the insects and birds that inhabit these environments. Often, they are joined by playful ‘faery folk’ lounging on leaves or swinging from seed pods.
Linda was preparing for an exhibition on Plants and Pollinators at this Museum when she lost her long battle with cancer. This exhibition, curated by her family, is a joyful retrospective of the life, passion and work of a truly gifted botanical artist.
