Evening Guided Tours

Join us for a tour of our magnificent Flying-fox colony then watch the truly spectacular fly-out at dusk.


As part of theNature Festival, join experts from Fauna Rescue of SA's Flying-fox Rescue and Education Team on a walk around Adelaide’s only Grey Headed Flying-fox Colony.

Learn about these incredible animals and how vitally important they are to the health of our planet.

Then, as the sun begins to set, you will observe them getting ready for their nightly feeding travels, watch - and hear - the mesmerising spectacle that is the fly out.

Accessibility

This is an accessible event, however patrons are advised that the the viewing of the flyout takes place on grass.

The guided tour is a slow pace that takes place on bitumen pathways and would usually take approximately 5 minutes to walk without stopping.

What to bring

Bring appropriate walking shoes and dress for the weather.

You may wish to bring a picnic blanket or low chairs for the fly out viewing.

Feel free to pack a picnic to enjoy as you watch the fly out.

Getting here

Ticketed parking is available along Plane Tree Drive.

Buses stop on Frome Road close to the event starting location. Please check out Adelaide Metro for details.

Trams to the Botanic Garden stop on North Terrace about 150m from the Main Gate where you can walk through Adelaide Botanic Garden to Botanic Park. However, please note that the Garden closes at 7pm, but this event ends at 8pm.
