Evening Guided Tours

Join us for a tour of our magnificent Flying-fox colony then watch the truly spectacular fly-out at dusk.

Location: Botanic Park, on the bridge between Adelaide Zoo and Frome Road.

As part of the Nature Festival, join experts from the Fauna Rescue of SA Bat Education Team on a walk around Adelaide’s only Grey Headed Flying-fox Colony.

Learn about these incredible animals and be mesmerised.

Children will receive activity sheets to have fun with on their walk of discovery.

As the sun begins to set you will observe them getting ready for their nightly feeding travels, and then watch - and hear - the amazing spectacle that is the fly out.

Family Picnic and Guided Tour

Enjoy a picnic with our very own Adelaide Grey Headed Flying-fox colony, then take a guided tour with the experts.

Location: Meet at Botanic Park, on the bridge between Adelaide Zoo and Frome Road.

Bring a picnic and a rug for this fun family day of adventure!

Children can dress up in their best fancy dress and bat wings will be available for loan.

Listen to experienced Flying-fox rescuers and carers talk about these amazing animals. Have your questions ready for the question and answer session in this Nature Festival event.

Finally, enjoy a tour of the Flying-Fox colony to learn more about these amazing animals and see where they live.

Children will be able to take part in a nature trail around the park as you embark on the tour.

Show bags will be provided for children to take home.

  • Tickets are required for this event for each attendee.

  • Practise good hygiene, wash your hands regularly, and utilise the hand sanitiser available.
  • Wearing of face masks is welcome.
  • If you have any COVID-19 symptoms (flu-like symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, fatigue or shortness of breath), please refrain from attending the event.
