In ancient Rome, Floralia was a spring festival in honour of Flora, the Roman goddess of flowers. This Nature Festival, Adelaide Botanic Garden is going full bloom and bust with its own twist on the festivities of Floralia!
Floralia is inspired by the work of ‘guerilla florist’ Geoffroy Mottart. Frustrated by how public sculptures in his native Belgium are often ignored, he intervenes to give them a floral ‘glow up.’
Sombre statues of statesman are garlanded in luscious floral beards, and female nudes adorned in ornate flower crowns.
Mottart creates Instagram worthy moments while sparking curiosity about the people and stories behind these public artworks.
Renowned local florist and Friend of the Botanic Garden, Richard Harman, has let his inner guerilla out and given our garden sculptures some petal power. Go with the flow, wander the Garden, and discover our rich sculptural heritage… as you have never seen it before!
When: From Saturday 4 October
Where: Throughout Adelaide Botanic Garden

Floralia is a Friends of the Botanic Gardens of Adelaide event, with generous support from Nature Festival.
