A nature-packed experience with a live show, art activity, and wilderness walk at Adelaide Botanic Garden!

Winged Wonders Trio of Treats is designed especially for children aged 3–8 and their families. This joyful event invites young explorers into a playful and educational world filled with butterflies, birds, and backyard discovery.

Kicking off the day is a high-energy live show led by Lucy and her puppet pals, Biddi Blue the butterfly and Flicka Firetail the bird. Through original songs, dance, puppetry, and interactive storytelling, children will discover the wonders of South Australia’s native butterflies and woodland birds. From learning about butterfly lifecycles and pollination to exploring bird habitats and the importance of conservation, this show blends fun and learning in the most delightful way.

After the performance, kids are invited to let their creativity soar at the Butterfly Garden Art Station. Using colour, shapes, and imagination, they’ll design their very own butterfly garden or bird-friendly habitat to take home—reinforcing the conservation themes of the show through hands-on play.

Families can then embark on a self-led Wilderness Walk using the provided Botanic Gardens bird-spotting activity, winding through the beautiful surrounds of the Botanic Gardens.

Equipped with curiosity and a sense of adventure, children will have the chance to spot real butterflies, listen for bird calls, and observe the native plants that support these special species. It’s a calming, nature-rich experience that encourages quiet observation and outdoor joy.

This is a flexible, feel-good event perfect for curious kids and nature-loving grown-ups. Families are welcome to join for one, two, or all three activities—whatever suits your flow on the day!

Winged Wonders Trio of Treats is part of the Winged Wonders of Adelaide video series, created by Sea Star Rock in collaboration with local ecologists, educators, and artists. The series celebrates South Australian biodiversity and encourages kids to care for wildlife in their own backyards—through music, movement, and meaningful fun.
