In a first for Australia and exclusive to Adelaide, Dale Chihuly's Garden Cycle exhibition transformed Adelaide Botanic Garden with 15 large-scale artworks in a free-entry exhibition, which ran from September 2024 to April 2025.
An additional exhibition called In Full Colour: Dale Chihuly, located inside the lush Bicentennial Conservatory, allowed ticket-holders to discover more about the American artist and the glass artform, and see an additional collection of vibrant sculptures.
Here, young visitors could also take part in the Moore Critters competition: using their imagination to draw a creature inspired by nature, monthly winners had their design turned into a unique piece by local leading glass artist, Tom Moore, and were able to take their very own masterpiece home.
In the evenings, visitors could purchase tickets to Chihuly Nights, a mesmerising event with dramatically lit sculptures, live music, food and drink.
An education program for students, free guided walks, a music series and science talks also complimented the seven-month event.
Whilst the exhibition has now ended, visitors will still be able to enjoy a Dale Chihuly artwork in Adelaide Botanic Garden. Thanks to a generous gift, the Glacier Ice and Lapis Chandelier will remain in the Palm House for all to enjoy.
Born in Tacoma, Washington, Dale Chihuly is a celebrated artist who, for more than half a century, has been creating world-class art in a range of mediums, using both new and old techniques.

Inspired by his mother’s love of gardens and his own connection to nature, Chihuly embarked on a creative journey to develop massive architectural glass installations for display in botanic gardens.
Since 2001, Chihuly has shown these magnificent forms in cities across the USA, as well as London’s Kew Gardens and Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay.
Uniting art and nature, Chihuly’s garden exhibitions are designed to complement the environment they are placed in, delivering distinct visitor experiences wherever they are featured.
