Outside In

Outside In: Connecting learners with nature to foster curiosity, improved wellbeing and a greater sense of self.

There is no single 'right' way to build a meaningful connection to nature and no single way for learners to experience it. What matters is identifying an entry point that feels authentic. When learners find that connection, the outcomes are significant: improved emotional regulation, reduced stress and anxiety, increased engagement in learning, stronger relationships with peers, and a growing sense of care for the natural world.

Resources included in the Outside In suite, explore four key pillars that support connection to nature: Growing Food, Flowers and Plants; Observing Nature; Art, Stories and Creativity; and Mindfulness and Meditation. By breaking this concept into distinct but connected areas, the program allows educators to find multiple entry points that align with their learners, teaching style and curriculum focus. Explore them by accessing the Padlets, linked below.

Through a variety of hands‑on, curriculum‑aligned activities, Outside In supports learner agency, invites curiosity and helps students develop practical skills for noticing, reflecting and responding to their environment.

Discover three new, immersive workshops created with guidance from psychologists and nature therapists from Connected Self. These practical, engaging sessions weave in moments of mindfulness to allow students to slow down, tune in and actively explore the links between nature, wellbeing and learning.
