Please note: After Wednesday 4 January, the Titan Arum will be well past its best, beginning to droop and the smell long gone. It will, however, remain on display to the public in the Conservatory for the immediate future, during its regular opening hours (10am to 4pm).

Brace yourselves, folks - our rotting flesh-smelling Titan arum, Ganteng (Amorphophallus titanum), better known as the Corpse Flower - has begun flowering at Adelaide Botanic Garden's Bicentennial Conservatory!

The Conservatory's opening hours will be extended to midnight tonight (Tuesday 3 January, last entry at 11:30pm sharp) to allow the public the best chance to experience it when it smells the strongest. Opening hours will also be extended tomorrow (Wednesday 4 January, 7am to 6:30pm) when the flower will still look spectacular, before it collapses in the following days.

When can I see it in its prime?

Any time today (Tuesday 3 January) until midnight (last entry at 11:30pm), or from 7am to 6:30pm tomorrow (Wednesday 4 January, last entry 6pm).

Where do I see it?

The Titan arum - named Ganteng (Indonesian for "handsome") following a social media competition - is on display in the Bicentennial Conservatory at Adelaide Botanic Garden (entry only via the northern doors, facing Conservatory Gate, Plane Tree Drive, alongside Botanic Park). This will be the only entry to the Conservatory and the Garden after 7pm as the rest of the Adelaide Botanic Garden will be closed. Download a map here.

Parking

Metered parking is available on Plane Tree Drive, but visitors are encouraged to use public transport if possible due to the expected high level of interest.

Lineup

There is the possibility of long lines, so visitors are encouraged to bring plenty of water (a peg for your nose is optional). Coffee, drinks and ice cream will be available near the entrance to the Conservatory.
