Gift in your Will

Leaving a Gift in your Will

Leaving a portion of your estate as a gift to the Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium, once you have taken care of your family and loved ones, can make a really big impact.

Making a difference

Do you love the wonderful Adelaide, Mount Lofty and Wittunga botanic gardens?

And do you believe, like us, that gardens, nature, botanical science and global plant conservation make the world a better place and are important for all our futures?

By leaving a bequest to the Botanic Gardens of South Australia you can help secure the future of our planet and provide lasting benefits for future generations.

How your bequest supports the Gardens

Unless otherwise specified, your bequest would be invested and managed by the Adelaide Botanic Gardens Foundation as part of its Endowment Fund. Income generated by the Endowment contributes to a sustainable income to take care of and enhance our Botanic Garden estates at Adelaide, Mount Lofty and Wittunga as well as supporting core functions.

You may choose to direct your bequest to a particular area of personal interest, including any of the following:

  • Science and research
  • Education
  • Art & culture

We would be grateful for flexibility in your wishes, as our projects and priorities may change over time. If you would like to leave a gift for a specific purpose, please contact us to discuss how your bequest can best fulfil its intention.

Wording your bequest

As a Will is a legal document, getting the wording right for all parties is important. Suggested wording for a bequest to the Adelaide Botanic Gardens Foundation is provided below. We encourage you to discuss your testamentary intentions with your family and seek legal advice regarding preparation of your will.

For the purposes of a bequest, our legal name is the Adelaide Botanic Gardens Foundation Fund (ABN 27 967 437 460).

Suggested wording:

I give to the Trustee for Adelaide Botanic Gardens Foundation Fund (ABN 27 967 437 460) (“the Foundation”)

(choose from the following):

  • The sum of $...
  • …% of the residue of my estate
  • the whole of the residue of my estate

for its general purposes, and a receipt from an authorised officer of the Foundation will be sufficient discharge to my executors or trustees.

Let us know

Bequests make a vital difference to the future of our Botanic Gardens, and your intention to leave a gift in your will makes you one of our most valued supporters. Notifying us of your intention to leave a bequest enables us to acknowledge your generosity during your lifetime, although you can of course choose to remain anonymous.

Additionally, to say thank you and acknowledge your intended gift, we offer all Bequestors membership to the Foundation.
