Lakeside Trail

Mount Lofty Botanic Garden’s Lakeside Trail officially opened in 2015, and it was designed to allow anyone – young families with prams; the elderly; people with limited understanding of English; and people with disabilities, their families and carers – to enjoy the Garden’s tranquil beauty.

Dotted along the one-kilometre loop around Main Lake are eight artworks – each one with a different fundamental message about people, plants and the environment. Follow the Trail at a leisurely pace and consider the themes and information each of these special artworks conveys about our relationships with plants.

The eight themes of the trail are:

  • The miracle of life
  • Wood
  • Water
  • Natural habitats
  • Beauty
  • The senses
  • The sun
  • Planet Earth

Each of the artworks has a message that has been translated to braille for people with vision impairments.

The Lakeside Trail was funded by generous donations made to the Board of the Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium.
