Join this half-day Educator Professional Development on connecting children with kitchen garden education, and using their senses to engage in learning.

In this educator professional development session, join our expert botanical educators for three segments, all revolving around the sensory experience of engaging young learners with plants.

This workshop aims to inspire educators to connect children with kitchen gardens and use their senses when in nature.

Activity 1:

Participate as a learner in our Little Sprouts Kitchen Garden program, where you’ll see firsthand some of the different activities possible in a school kitchen garden, and how the Botanic Garden's Little Sprouts Kitchen Garden program is run.

Activity 2:

Join our Botanical Educators to discover a sensory trail and see how to connect learners with our plant collection through the senses of touch, smell, sight, sound, taste! This trail will require a stroll up to 1km in length.

Activity 3:

Engage in hands-on nature-based activities for children with our Horticultural Therapist. These activities will be easily transferable to a classroom, yard, and kitchen garden context.

Participants will receive a free copy of 'Kitchen Garden: A Beginner's Guide' by Bruce Morphett, packed full of gardening knowledge.

Participants are also entitled to Little Sprouts Kitchen Garden Educator Resource - rich in gardening knowledge, craft ideas and learning opportunities for young gardeners - at a wholesale price of $10.00 on the day of the workshop, or in the week following when you quote the course booking. Limited copies available.

Participants will receive a Professional Development Certificate recognising 3 hours of learning, in line with AITSL Professional Standards for Teachers: 3.3, 4.1, 6.2, 6.3.
